My name is Juanita Reyes and I am native of Brooklyn, NY. I am an Alumni of Thomas Edison State University. I married my college sweetheart, Ray. This past September we celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. I’ve not scared him away yet. The man’s a saint! We moved to South Carolina almost two years ago for the same reason most native from the north do; we wanted to leave behind the high taxes and cold weather and be closer to the soothing sounds of the ocean. I am blessed to have 2 amazing daughters and 3 grand puppies. I enjoy the grand pups extremely while I wait patiently to one day have a real grandchild.
I began my employment career in the corporate market in New York City. Working as an Office Manager at an Interior Design Firm. Later, as a legal secretary for one of the partners at a patent law office.
After I became a mom, we moved to New Jersey, where we stayed and raised our family until we relocated to South Carolina. I left corporate and joined the educational system. I taught every grade level. The last position being an Adjunct Professor for over 15 years at Centenary University. It never mattered to me if I taught 2nd grade, or a senior in college. They all became my children, and they knew it. I still stay in touch with many of them, some have family of their own. This past spring, I flew to Costa Rica and was reunited to two students and their families which I had not seen in more than 10 years. There was a lot of tears, laughter, and shared memories.
In my spare time, I volunteered for the local homeless shelters cooking meals as well as being a foster puppy mom at our local animal shelter, both which brought me joy to be a part of. We were blessed to have many newborn puppies come into our care and be returned to the shelter healthy, plump and ready to be adopted into loving homes. They were usually adopted within days. The largest litter we ever cared for was 5 newborn pit bulls that were abandoned. It really took a village to help. And the neighborhood children were delighted to help.
I was involved with my church for many years as well. I served as a Eucharistic Minister, hospital ministry, and Lector.
I have always had a fascination with homes. I can spend hours looking at pictures of homes and imagining the families that occupied them. I have a gift for seeing beyond the flaws and seeing their potential. I wanted to start a career that was going to be fulfilling and allow me to meet people and, well, here I am. I am excited to be on this journey and see where it leads me. I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of the Shoreline team and family.
